Our Story

A Family Business Oradea Has Relied On Since 2011

Three generations of the Ashford family have built this company on a single conviction: that people deserve to be treated as neighbours, not clients.

Meet the Team

Our Story Starts in a Small Workshop on Strada Republicii

In 2011, with a set of hand tools and a reputation to build, the Ashford family opened for business in the heart of Oradea.

The founder, George Ashford, arrived in Oradea in 2008 after years of working in property maintenance across Western Europe. He recognised that Oradea — a city of extraordinary architectural heritage and rapidly growing private housing — needed service providers who combined international standards with genuine local commitment. The first workshop was modest: two staff, a second-hand van, and word-of-mouth as the only marketing. Within three years, the client base had grown entirely through referral. Today his daughter Elena manages day-to-day operations while his son Dan leads the technical team. George himself still takes on advisory clients every Tuesday and Thursday morning, because he believes that the founder's involvement is part of the product.

Terracotta and Cream: The Colours We Work Within

Oradea's warm terracotta-cream buildings are our working environment — and a daily standard for the quality we aim to match.

Working in Oradea means working alongside some of the most beautiful early-twentieth-century architecture in Central Europe. The city's terracotta-cream Secessionist and Art Nouveau facades are not merely scenic — they are a reminder that the people who built this city cared about proportion, material quality, and lasting beauty. We carry that sensibility into everything we do, from the products we source to the way we finish a paint edge or align a fixture. Our clients notice. Several have told us that they chose Ashford & Co precisely because we take aesthetic outcomes seriously, not just functional ones. In a city this beautiful, anything less would feel like a missed opportunity.

The Values We Operate By

These are not marketing statements — they are the internal standards the Ashford family uses to evaluate every job before sign-off.

People Before Process

Systems and checklists are useful, but they serve people — not the other way around. When a client's circumstances change mid-project, we adapt without making them feel like an inconvenience. Flexibility is part of the service, not an exception to it.

Honest Communication

If a job is beyond our current capacity, we say so and recommend a specialist. If a product we sourced arrives damaged, we replace it before informing the client — not after. We have never sent an invoice that we would be embarrassed to explain line by line.

Long-Term Thinking

We favour solutions built to last over quick fixes that generate repeat call-outs. When a cheaper option would compromise durability, we present both choices with our recommendation and the reasoning behind it. Our goal is that clients call us less over time because everything is functioning well.

“George Ashford advised me on a full interior renovation of my property near Piața Unirii in 2019. What stood out was that he talked me out of two expensive changes that he said would not add value — and he was right. Most contractors push you to spend more. The Ashfords actively saved me money and then did the remaining work beautifully. That is a rare combination.”
